•• Графически эти два слова очень похожи, но больше ничего общего между ними нет, и это надо знать, тем более, что одно из них в последнее время вошло в моду. Inveigle (произносится, как пишется) означает убедить путем уговоров, нажима, по значению близко к русскому слегка жаргонному уломать. В один и тот же день, на одной странице International Herald Tribune это слово встретилось дважды: Later [Yeltsin] was inveigled to upgrade Russia’s representation... If [Mr. Arafat] cannot inveigle the United States and Egypt to impose a solution – then realism will be given a chance.
•• Inveigh against означает обрушиться на кого-либо с резкой критикой, проще говоря – обругать. Встречается реже, особенно в устной речи.
